Schedule social media posts by asking your AI assistant

Smartplannr has an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants that take MCP connectors can work in your account. Ask for a week of LinkedIn posts in your brand voice, an image for Friday’s offer, or what’s going out tomorrow. It acts as you, within your permissions.

Setting up Claude or ChatGPT?

Step-by-step instructions for each, with which of their plans can add Smartplannr.

Set up Claude

What it looks like

An example conversation with an assistant connected to Smartplannr, for a made-up café.

Plan three Instagram posts for next week about our autumn menu, with an image for the first one. Save them as drafts.

  • Read your brand voice
  • Made an image in your brand kit
  • Saved 3 drafts
The image it made: The autumn menu is here, from £2.50, in the café’s navy and amber

Done. Three drafts are waiting in Smartplannr: Monday 9:00, “The autumn menu is here”, with this image in your colours; Wednesday 12:30 on the pumpkin spice latte; and Friday 9:00 on the new pastries. Shall I schedule them?

What your assistant can do

  • One address to add

Add smartplannr.com/api/mcp as a custom connector in your assistant, sign in to Smartplannr and choose Allow. No API keys to copy.

  • Write, schedule and edit

It can create posts on several accounts with a caption for each network, schedule and reschedule them, edit them, and delete any that haven’t gone out.

  • It knows your brand

It reads your brand voice, the facts you keep and the words you’ve ruled out before it writes, so captions sound like you.

  • Branded images on request

Ask for an image with a headline, a price or a photo from your library. It’s drawn in your brand kit and saved to your media library.

  • It acts as you, and no more

It sees only the workspaces and accounts you can. Your role, approval rules and plan limits apply, and it saves drafts unless you ask it to schedule or publish.

  • Disconnect in one click

Settings → AI assistants lists every assistant you’ve allowed. Disconnect one and it loses access straight away.

How to connect your AI assistant

  1. Copy the address

In Smartplannr, open Settings → AI assistants and copy the server address: https://smartplannr.com/api/mcp.

  2. Add it to your assistant

Add it as a custom connector (some assistants call it an MCP server). In Claude Code, run the one-line command shown in Settings.

  3. Sign in and allow

Your assistant opens Smartplannr’s sign-in page. Sign in, check which assistant is asking, and choose Allow.

  4. Ask for what you need

Try “Plan three LinkedIn posts for next week about our autumn menu and save them as drafts.”

Three things to ask

  • A week in one message

“Write five Instagram posts for next week from our brand voice and schedule them at 9am each day.”

  • An image for the offer

“Make a square image that says ‘Two for £5, Fridays’ and add it to Friday’s post.”

  • A quick check

“What’s scheduled for tomorrow, and does anything still need approval?”

Good to know

  • Your assistant goes through the same checks as the composer: character limits, media rules and each network’s formats.
  • Photos and videos must already be in your media library; the assistant attaches them but can’t upload files.
  • Posts that include TikTok are saved as drafts, so you can choose TikTok’s audience settings in Smartplannr.
  • Assistants can’t connect accounts, change settings, invite people or see billing.

Questions

Any assistant that supports MCP connectors with sign-in. That includes Claude on every plan (the web, the desktop app and Claude Code), Cursor, and ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, where OpenAI allows custom connectors that make changes.

No. The MCP server is included on every plan, including the free Starter plan. Posts your assistant creates count toward your plan’s limits like any others.

Only if you ask it to. It saves drafts by default, a post that needs approval in your workspace still needs approval, and it can’t delete a post that has already gone out.

No. You sign in to Smartplannr on our own page and choose Allow. The assistant gets access to your Smartplannr account only, and your social network connections stay on our servers.

It can’t connect or remove social accounts, change settings, invite people or see billing. Those stay in Smartplannr.

It can write the post, which is saved as a draft. TikTok asks you to choose who can see each video, so you finish and schedule it in Smartplannr.
